Rick Grimes, a police officer, is shot during a gunfight and falls into a coma. When he wakes up a few weeks later, he discovers that the world has been overrun by zombies. Now, wounded and alone, he will have to find his wife and son whilst trying to survive against both the living and the dead. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman; in the series, we follow Rick and his group of survivors, as they face the threat of both the living dead and the remaining humans.
A large media franchise
The show is a mixture of zombie-killing action sequences and gut-wrenching character drama. It explores the most primal and raw aspects of human nature in a world where morality is relative and survival is the number one priority. Structurally the series introduces a new conflict for the group to face in each season, slowly building up the tension with each episode until reaching a climactic ending in the season finale.
AMC broadcasts The Walking Dead in the United States exclusively and Fox Networks Group internationally. AMC has also further developed the series, which has since become a large media franchise, spawning two spin-off series: Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond and numerous novels, films, and several video games.
